Pollen viability test

To test if pollen is viable or not, a differential staining method is used. Viable pollen grains stain magenta-red and aborted pollen grains stain blue-green.

This method is useful to determine whether pollen that was stored for a period of time is still viable or not. The test is quick and cost-effective.
